Tutorial: How to set up Ledger Nano

A hardware wallet like Ledger Nano offers a secure way to manage your IDON Tokens. You will however need MetaMask or MEW as well.

Ledger Nano is a hardware wallet that you can use to safely store and send / receive cryptocurrencies, such as IDON.

CAUTION:

1. Using a Ledger Nano wallet is more complicated to set up and use for managing your IDON Tokens compared to a mobile wallet such as Trust Wallet or Coinbase Wallet. However, it does offer more a lot more security.

2. Before you start with setting up a cryptocurrency wallet, please read these security recommendations first.

Step 1: Set up your Ledger Nano

  1. Purchase the device directly from the manufacturer: https://www.ledger.com/. You can select either the Nano S, or the Nano X, both work fine. Hardware wallets bought off ebay or from other vendors cannot be guaranteed secure.
  2. Once you have received the device, unbox it and connect the device with the USB cable to an electricity source (not your computer or mobile phone).
    • Select to “set up as a new device“.
    • You will be asked to set up a 4 digit password to protect the device.
    • You will be asked to write down a 24 word seed phrase. Make sure to write this down (there is a card in the box that you can use).
    • You will be asked to confirm the 24 word seed phrase.
  3. Install the Ledger Live software on your computer or mobile phone. Set a password to protect the access to this program.
  4. Connect your Ledger device to your computer or phone (where you have installed Ledger Live).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Ledger device to Ledger Live.
  6. If you are prompted to do so, install firmware updates on your Ledger device.
  7. Install the “Ethereum App” on your Ledger device.
  8. Add Account” for your Ethereum wallet.

VERY IMPORTANT

Please carefully read and implement these security recommendations regarding safe storage and usage of your tokens. It is your responsibility to protect your wallets and tokens. Treat it as you would protect your bank account and cards.

Step 2: Set up MetaMask or MEW to work with Ledger Nano

At the moment there is no direct support yet for managing your IDON Tokens on Ledger Live. This means that you will have use another program to do this. The two best options are:

Option 1: MetaMask

MetaMask is a web browser extension that you can use on your computer to send / receive IDON tokens, in combination with using the Ledger Nano for added security.

  1. Install the MetaMask browser extension, and then follow the instructions here to set up your MetaMask account.
  2. After you have set up your MetaMask account, we have to connect your Ledger Nano to MetaMask. Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect Ledger Nano to MetaMask.
  3. To add IDON tokens via MetaMask, see the instructions here. You will need the following information:
    1. You need to add IDON as a Custom Token.
    2. The IDON Token Address is: 0x12c5E73Ddb44cD70225669B9F6f0d9DE5455Bc31
    3. Token Symbol: IDON
    4. Decimals: 18

Option 2: MyEtherWallet MEW is a program that you can use on your computer or mobile phone to send / receive IDON Tokens, in combination with using the Ledger Nano for added security.
  1. Follow the instructions here to set up and connect your Ledger Nano to MEW.

    1. You need to add IDON as a Custom Token.
